Stay Calm Under Pressure With These Steps

We have all had a time at least once in our lives when we feel like everything is falling into pieces. You have a huge deadline for work in a couple of days, it's your week to carpool, and a thousand other things on your to do list. How can we even manage to do all these things without being completely stressed out? Being constantly stressed is very unhealthy because it can negatively affect your skin, it makes it difficult to control your emotions, and it can weaken your immune system.

If you are ever feeling extremely stressful and you want a healthier alternative to cope with stress, use these tips to stay calm:

Eat to destress

Eating food can help your mind and body relax while under a lot of stress. There are certain types of foods that release certain hormones to make us feel happier. These foods include mangos, dark chocolate, gum, complex carbs (whole-grain oatmeal/bread), and crunchy foods. It has been reported that people who undergo a lot of stress crave crunchy foods which help fight the anxiety.

Listen to your favorite songs

Listening to music that you really like or a favorite song will make you feel more relaxed. Studies have shown that listening to music lowers your heart rate, blood pressure, and helps fight anxiety.

Write in a journal

Writing in a journal is the perfect alternative to taking out all of your emotions the right away. Instead of taking it out on friends or family, you can just spill everything you need to say in a journal. Writing things you are worried about can help you get rid of these worries and it can also make you feel more confident.

Drink tea

Certain types of tea like chamomile, passionflower and green tea can help lower your stress and feel more relaxed.

Get a massage

If you have an hour to spare, schedule a massage session to feel the most relaxed you have ever felt in a long time. Getting a massage is equivalent to getting 7-8 hours of sleep so it's the perfect way to make up your loss of sleep. In addition, massages relax your muscles and helps decrease your blood pressure and heart rate.

The Best Foods for Flawless Skin

Having flawless skin is something that many of you wish to have, but don't know how to get there. Working out and getting enough sleep are contributing factors to having good skin, but there are all certain healthy foods that can make a big impact to having flawless skin. Many experiments have proved that specific nutrients have been linked to great skin, and these foods are surprisingly good:

1. Chocolate
Who knew that there were benefits to eating our favorite sweet treats? The cocoa actually hydrates your skin, making it more firm and supple. Dark chocolate has high levels of flavonol that contributes to better skin. When buying chocolate, make sure you buy a type that is at least 70 percent cocoa. If you experience fluffiness in your skin, the caffeine in the chocolate will help reduce that fluffiness.

2. Yogurt
Eating certain healthy dairy foods like yogurt has a lot of protein that helps your skin become more firm. Greek yogurt is a type of yogurt is the most beneficial for your skin. You can also purchase a soothing gel made out of yogurt!

3. Pomegranates
The polyphenol in pomegranates are strong antioxidants that regulate the blood flow of your skin, giving it a rosy look. You will notice quick results by eating one pomegranate or a few pomegranate drinks a day. In addition, applying it to the skin acts as a moisturizer and smooth out fine lines.

4. Walnuts
Walnuts have several nutrients that are great for the texture of your complexion, elasticity, and slough tough calluses. Walnuts include nutrients like copper and omega-3 essential fatty acids.

5. Peppers
It is known that people who have green and yellow vegetables have fewer wrinkles around their eyes. Carotenoids, the antioxidants in red and yellow vegetables also decreases sun sensitivity to the sun.

We also offer healthy skin facials and products that will contribute to having great skin! Learn more about our skincare services and Murad products here!

Tips For a Healthy Fall!

Summer is coming to an end, school is starting, and now it's time to go back to reality. Working full time, having children as well as other obligations can distract you from being healthy and balancing between self-care and work. Here are some tips that will help you live a healthier life starting the fall season:

Tip 1: Eat Pumpkins.
Everyone knows that fall is the season for pumpkins, pies, and jack-o-lanterns. Did you know that the pulp of pumpkins is filled with vitamin A and C? In addition, the mouthwatering seeds contain phytosterols which help reduce cholesterol! What a delicious way to start living a healthier life. Pumpkin carving is always fun, but the benefits of indulging pumpkins make it even more fun!

Tip 2: Get your flu shot!
The fall season is also known for the passing around of the FLU. Who wants to be stuck home for a week with a fever and feeling extremely ill? The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention even say that the best way to prevent the flu is to get the flu vaccine. BTW, the vaccine cannot give you the flu.

Tip 3: Go outside.
With the beautiful leaves and change in nature, who would want to miss out on the gorgeous scenery. The great thing about going outside in the fall is the perfect weather. It's not humid and hot like the summer, it's just at the right temperature with a good breeze. Besides enjoying the breath of fresh air and scenery, being outside will increase your vitamin D levels which will help with your concentration and make you feel cheerful.

Tip 4: Steer clear of the Halloween candy.
You don't have to avoid EVERY piece of candy that you have, but don't go crazy with the sugar. A great strategy to deal with Halloween is to buy only enough for the trick-or-treaters. When buying candy, also wait until the day of so you don't have to think about the chocolate you could be eating right now.

Tip 5: A healthier Thanksgiving.
Thanksgiving day is the time where you can go out on all your favorite meals. On Thanksgiving, it is common to eat large portions than you normally do and this can affect your plan to a healthier life. Worry not, you can start the day with a light protein and fiber meal to boost your metabolism and reduce cravings, and then instead of taking large portions of every food that is available to you, take smaller portions on your plate. Think about what you feel you can live without and what you really need, or want.

Steps Towards Healthy Living in the Summer

1. A berry boost!
Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, anything that ends with berries are the key to improving your diet right away! Berries are filled with antioxidants which reduces illnesses and prevents tissue damage. In addition, berries contain a lot of fiber so they can even help lower cholesterol if you have a history of high cholesterol!

2. Get dirty
When you are feeling stressed out, plant a small garden or flower pots. It sounds strange, but the feeling of putting your hands in dirt relieves both mental and physical stress as well as making you feel grounded.

3. Floss is boss
We all know its hard to remember, but flossing everyday is essential to leading a healthier life. Floss removes oral bacteria which improves your overall body health. If you floss daily, you are already healthier than 80 percent of people!

4. Play outside
There are so many things you can do outside to exercise without even feel like your exercising. Have a day where you play football with your friends or family, go roller blading, or go for a swim. Doing an outdoor activity with family members and friends can even promote bonding time!

5. Eye see
Treat your eyes! Always protect your vision when you are out in the sun with UV ray sunglasses. Wearing sunglasses can prevent you from getting cataracts and wrinkles around the eyes. Also, if you are outside doing physical activities or doing lawn work, make sure you are wearing protective eye wear!

6. It's time to get away
Going on vacation or just getting away to relax can actually reduce your heart rate, blood pressure, and stress hormones! It's the summer so why not take advantage of it? If you don't have time to go away, enjoy a staycation with Massage Envy and get a massage which has similar effects as going on vacation.

5 Ways to Destress Your Life ☮

Stress is the number one worst feeling and everyone experiences it at least once in their life. Whether it is final exam week, two huge projects from work due at the end of the day, or something personal, stress strongly affects you and all you want to do is feel relaxed but you don't know how. You may question what techniques you can do to overcome stress, so heres 5 ways that will help you unwind and feel a sense of relief.

1. Meditate

While under a large amount of stress, meditating can decrease your blood pressure and heart rate by the deep breaths you take, focusing on your inhales and exhales.

2. Green Tea

Instead of drinking coffee, a stimulant that can sometimes have negative effects from caffeine, try green tea. It fosters relaxation and still gives you the same energy coffee would give you.

3. Eat Mood Boosting Foods

Carbs always sound so good. When stressed, we tend to run to the pantry and eat all the sugary, salty foods we can find. These foods surprisingly do have a soothing effect for our minds so portion them out and enjoy!

4. Get a Massage

Massages definitely destress you by removing all the tensions through your back or anywhere else you feel tight. In addition, the aromatherapy oils that are used reduces your stress level a significant amount. So anytime you feel tense, stop by Massage Envy to destress!

5. Exercise Daily

You may have heard the quote from Legally Blonde, "Exercise releases endorphins, endorphins makes you happy." The quote is true! Exercising is a great way to decrease your stress levels.
